Indiana Jones Film Screening & Lecture
Program: Archaeology, Espionage and the World Wars
Presented by: Dr. William B. Hafford | Penn Museum
Come join the Copernicus Society—the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania’s Masonic partnership with institutions of higher education—for a special screening of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the latest entry in the Indiana Jones franchise in which the eponymous archaeologist races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA. The film will be preceded by a brief presentation from Dr. William Bradley Hafford, PhD—Research Associate in the Penn Museum’s Near East Section—who will be speaking about his nearly thirty years of experience in the Middle East, which include excavations in Greece, Syria, Egypt, and Iraq and at world-renowned sites such as the Giza Plateau, Ur, and Nimrud. Many thanks to Bro. Dominick Arp who has graciously lent us the use of SideQuest Theater for this showcase. Pizza, snacks and light refreshments are included with the price of admission. This event is open to Masons as well as to their friends and families.
Copernicus Society Information Session
The Copernicus Society will be managing an information session at Center City District (CCD) Sips at Dilworth Park every Wednesday afternoon during the month of August for the purposes of enhancing the organization’s visibility to the broader public. Volunteers will be asked to highlight the society’s mission, vision and values, field questions as well as provide updates to several the upcoming social and philanthropic events sponsored by the organization in order to drive interest in Freemasonry in general and the Copernicus Society in particular.

Program: Amendments to Club By-Laws

A Stated Meeting of the Copernicus Society will be held in the Grand Master’s Conference Room at the Philadelphia Masonic Temple in Center City, during which time we will make final arrangements for the next film screening at SideQuest Theater as well as consider amendments to the latest iteration of the club’s by-laws. The membership will also provide updates on their endeavors to make in-roads with Philadelphia’s academic institutions.
Apollo 11 Film Screening & Lecture
Come join the Copernicus Society—the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania’s Masonic partnership with institutions of higher education—for a special screening of Apollo 11, the award winning documentary directed by Todd Douglas Miller and featuring never-before-seen footage and audio recordings that recount NASA's most celebrated mission as astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins embark on a historic trip to the moon. Masquerade Ball
Come join the Copernicus Society usher in “spooky season” by attending our annual Masquerade Ball at the historic Maybrook Mansion. Guests are invited to dress in costume where they will be treated to live entertainment, heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, analog and video games, raffle prizes and a tour of the mansion’s facilities and grounds. Indulge in Maybrook’s 19th century charm and architecture as we learn about the history of the estate bequeathed by local liquor baron and real estate developer Henry C. Gibson to his wife, Mary B. Klett and six-year-old daughter Mary Klett "May" Gibson—the latter for whom the property is named. Guests are also invited to partake in billiards, parlor games, as well as compete for the high score in our local pinball machine.
